Turkish dramas: what’s all the fuss about?

KARACHI: Through your esteemed newspaper, I would like to ask to all those people who are against the transmission of Turkish dramas in Pakistan: what is the problem in seeing the culture and traditions of a brotherly Muslim nation.

Those who object to their broadcast, forget that Turkey is a Muslim-majority country and its people have always shown respect and love for the people of Pakistan and consider us their brothers and sisters. If anything, they should kick up a fuss on the continued — and extensive — broadcast of Indian shows and dramas on several private Pakistani TV channels.

@Tabinda: Your comment is quite thought-provoking and I think deserves an equally well-considered response. I would be tempted to ask you, that if you are in a foreign land, what do you look for in terms of dining options??? A Turkish or Mediterranean restaurant, or an Indian or Pakistani Restaurant???? Well, with quite an extensive experience of hosting Pakistani guests overseas over a long period of time, I can tell you with certitude that overwhelmingly they opt for South Asian Restaurants. Failing to find one, they go for Chinese, and reluctantly even to a Thai Restaurant. Therein lies the abstruse mystery to your query!!!! While you are at it, you might also consider the oft-repeated expression: “You can take the boy out of the country, but not the country out of the boy.”

I agree with the letter. I think that the Turkish dramas are leaps and bounds better than the Indian junk that so many people watch. I would rather Pakistanis watch Turkish movies and dramas than Bollywood stuff which is more offensive to me!
