No special privileges

Letter December 24, 2013
It is high time government adopt policies that take into account misery, hardship the general public undergo.

KARACHI: This is in response to a report in your newspaper of December 19 titled: “Get ready for long hours of load-shedding”. There is no doubt that the production of hydel power may increase after the canals have been cleaned but that will hardly be any consolation for ordinary Pakistanis, who will have to undergo prolonged hours of load-shedding. At least, during the time that the canals are cleaned, the government can resume the supply of CNG to CNG stations so that the misery of ordinary people can, at least, partially be reduced.

It also goes without saying that the issue of load-shedding needs to be resolved on a long-term basis. The government needs to look into tapping alternative sources of power production and at the same time, ensure transparency in the existing system of power production and distribution.

Special privileges should not be given to any business tycoon or influential person. It is high time that the government adopted policies that took into account the misery and hardship that the general public is undergoing these days.
