Mobile networks are reported to go down starting 8am on Tuesday, December 24.
Cellular services will be ceased in 31 cities throughout the country, PTA said in a statement.
Security
Security forces will be put on high alert across Pakistan on that day, with army units deployed in parts of Sindh particularly Karachi.
The deployment came after the Sindh government requested for army’s assistance. Around 4,000 to 5,000 army personnel will be deployed in the province as a part of the security plan.
Police and Rangers will primarily be responsible for the security while army will be on standby to handle emergency situation.

This is stupid. Why so much freedom given to one sect where the majority of the population is confined to homes and stripped of their rights to work/communicate just so some crazy heretics could celebrate their non-islamic and anti-islamic rituals?
if you are going to restrict 90% of the people from carrying out their day to day lives, why can't you confine that 10% (or whatever percent they make) of the population to their places of worship and processions?
when poor Afghans or some locals in Peshawar try to celebrate Eid with Saudi Arabia, they are beaten and banned from praying the Eid prayer. Where is the religious freedom for them? Even hindus are given the religious freedom, and the whole month of Muharram is dedicated to these mushriks.
may Allah help this country. On one hand it's getting more westernized than the western countries themselves. on the other hand there is so many ignorant customs and rituals that did not even exist 5 centuries ago. It seems like not even 15% people of this country are on the proper Islamic belief.
This is stupid , i neded to contact the hospital and doctors and i am unabke to do so due to this ban ! This is sheer stupididty !
@Ahmed - Karachi: You are right, but the can we figure out what actually the law will say? Ban Muharram processions, Rabiulawal procession or any religious activity? How will a procession be defined? In fact the law will ban every activity involving more than a given count of people in public places and that will include all sorts of protests, whether against, drones, inflation, missing persons, load shedding, election rigging, military operation or any long march for restoration of institution such as judiciary. If we want to have a practical example of states where such laws are applied, we can have a look at the Middle East. Over there religious gatherings are limited to the mosques. But this is not all. All processions or protests are banned. A question we should ask ourselves, how come India with Hindu majority has no problems with Rabiulawal and Muharram processions and Pakistan being an Islamic Republic has a big deal whenever such ocassion arrives.
Very well said Mr. Bashir. I believe this should be the case for everyone regardless of their religious sect. @asad alvi please have the courtesy to be un-insulting in your posts. We're here to contribute our feelings in a rational and behaved manner. Posts like yours just brew anger. Our behaviour is what seperates us from the extremists in our religion. Respect that please. Do not take my comment offensively. We're all brothers here.
Yes- Its the Che(h)lum of Pakistan don't miss it.
@Bashir Very well said gentleman.
@ Bashir; Very well said gentleman.
@Bashir: ok ... anything else ???
No religious processions should be allowed on roads which cause traffic hazards to the public. They should contain themselves inside the closed premises. Stadiums can be used for such purposes.
