Shamlan wants to train local coaches

Ex-Bahrain coach will hold workshops for PFF coaches next year.

KARACHI:

National football coach Mohamed Shamlan plans to work with local coaches in order to improve the standard of the sport in the country.

Shamlan, who believes that Pakistan is his second home, will be finishing his week-long camp with 44 players in Lahore whom he picked after watching the matches of Pakistan Premier Football League.

Shamlan said that while he worked with the players in the camp and taught the youngsters about different strategies in the field, his next goal will be to work with the national coaches.

“I want to focus on the coaches as well,” Shamlan told The Express Tribune. “I want the coaches to have proper understanding for each age group, from U14 to the senior level. The player management is also important.”

Shamlan said that he would work separately on the coaches in the beginning of the next year.

“I think we can start a separate program for the coaches, in which I can conduct different workshops for coaches. I can show them how to improve and train their players at their clubs.”

Shamlan was also appointed Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) technical director earlier this year.

PFF Secretary Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi had said that Shamlan was given the post due to his understanding of the coaches and the players. He added that the Bahraini would be able to make better decisions for the sport on this post.
