“The project will prove helpful in lowering the cost of agriculture and livestock products as well as reducing post-harvest losses,” he said.
Project Chief Coordinator Kashif Jamshed said under the project, monthly export of 12 containers of potato and kinnow to Malaysia will commence. He said 11 clusters – two of rice, eight of potatoes and one of water melon – comprising 163 farms of agriculture and livestock have been established and further applications were being scrutinised.
Meanwhile, nine rice growers, 11 potato growers, nine tomato and water melon growers, two mango and three producers of beef and mutton have been finalised for Global Gap certification.
Jamshed said 22 applicants had been selected for the International Featured Standard (IFS Food) certification whereas four applicants were selected for the International Featured Standard (IFS Broker) certification.
The Punjab government is extending financial assistance for acquiring Global Gap and IFS certification, which will assist the farmers to introduce their livestock and agriculture products in the international market.
“The Punjab government is taking steps for the development of post-harvest technology,” said Javed, calling on the agriculture sector to take maximum benefit of the facilities being extended to them by the government.
He said it was important for the agriculture and livestock sectors to manufacture their products in accordance with hygienic standards and international specifications, after the required training.
