Magnum opus: Book on precedents in law launched

Legal experts have described precedents important in judicial system.


They were speaking at the launching ceremony of a book “Precedent in Pakistani Law” by Dr Muhammad Munir, at the International Islamic University on Friday, said a press release.

“The book is a magnum opus and there is a needs for such books”, Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan said.

He said the author has elaborated judicial matters with examples.

Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan said “We require clarity in legal issues in the light of precedents and the author comprehensively worked on the topic”. Decision process of the cases must be expedited to make the judicial system work smoothly.

Dr Munir is currently serving as Chairman Department of Law at the university.

IIUI president Dr Al-Draiweesh said the book addressed complex issues in a simple way and should be translated in other languages.

The book was an important addition to the jurisdiction and Islamic history examples with cohesion to the contemporary legal issues have made it a successful comprehensive effort, said Barrister Yousaf Khosa.

The book discusses evolution of doctrine of precedents in the South Asian Sub-continent and various other important legal aspects.
