KARACHI:

Rauf used to part of the Rehman Baloch group and was also associated with the banned al Zulfiqar organisation that hijacked a PIA plane in 1981. Rauf’s elder brother, Arif, who was killed in 1995, had played a vital role in the hijacking and was considered Murtaza Bhutto’s right hand. He was also accused of killing Justice Nabi Sher Junejo but was later released from the jail.

Rauf was under the impression that he would replace Rehman as the head of Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) and that his brother, Amjad Lashari, would replace Baba Ladla as the operational commander. After Rehman’s death in an alleged police encounter, however, the PAC blamed Rauf and his brother for tipping off the police about Rehman’s location. After their houses were attacked, the brothers left Lyari. They also spent some time in Dubai.

Rauf was arrested along with is top aide Iqbal alias Captain from Gulshan-e-Iqbal by Crime Investigation Department SP Chaudhry Aslam in September 2010 but was later released. Since his release, Rauf and his brother remained low-key. He later joined the Ghaffar Zikri group after developing differences with Uzair Baloch.
