Perils of work: BDS official injured in exercise drill

A bomb disposal squad (BDS) member was severely injured while defusing a live bomb during an exercise drill.

TIMERGARA: A bomb disposal squad (BDS) member was severely injured while defusing a live bomb during an exercise drill in Balambat Police Lines, Lower Dir district on Wednesday.

Balambat police in charge Inspector Syed Zaman Shah said the incident occurred at 10am when BDS officials were practicing defusing different types of explosives inside Police Lines.

Head constable Usman Zada was defusing a bomb when it detonated and injured him severely. Shah stated the official was shifted to Timergara Headquarters Hospital where doctors rushed him into surgery. A three-hour-long operation resulted in the removal of multiple ball bearings from Usman’s body.

The inspector said that the injured BDS official is now in stable condition.
