Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka Mian Afrasiab Mehdi Hashmi Qureshi was called to Bangladesh's Ministry of foreign affairs on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Secretary (bilateral) Mustafa Kamal conveyed the government’s protest and handed the High Commissioner an “Aide Memoire”, bdnews24.com reported.
According to a press release, the Bangladesh foreign ministry said Hashmi Qureshi was called to lodge a protest against the resolutions adopted by the Pakistan National Assembly and the Punjab Provincial Assembly.
The Secretary conveyed in “unequivocal terms” that the war crimes trial in Bangladesh was “an internal matter” and as such “the uncalled for resolutions on the verdicts of the war crimes trial tantamount to interference in the domestic affairs of Bangladesh”.
NA resolution
Pakistan's National Assembly on Monday had passed a resolution against the hanging of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh leader Abdul Quader Molla with majority votes.
Molla was executed on December 12 after Bangladesh’s top court convicted him of war crimes during the 1971 war of secession.
“This house expresses concerns over the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader of Bangladesh, Abdul Quader Molla, for supporting Pakistan and [we give our] condolences to his family and the JI Bangladesh. This house demands of the Bangladesh government not to rake up the memories of 1971 and all cases against JI leaders [of Bangladesh] should be settled amicably,” read the resolution.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who began the debate over the issue, announced the government’s support for the resolution.
“Bangladesh is a sovereign state and we respect that,” but the execution of Molla, a supporter of united Pakistan, was a ‘judicial murder’ and has saddened the entire nation again", he had said.

Mulla sided with Pakistan army and is declared martyr by J.I Pakistan but Hakeemullah fighting against the same army is also a Shaheed. Quite confusing isn't it.
Creation of Bangladesh has clearly flawed the Two Nation Theory.
@IK FAN: "ET is infested by indians from the comments I see." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You mean ET is infected by indians from the comments I see.
@sami:
"salute to u pakistanis…you are doing a great job by supporting a murdere and rapist..do you even have any idea about what happened in 1971?"
Very valid questions. The answer is simple. They don't really know the true history. Blame the Pakistan studies textbooks.
"Jamat E Islami, Bangladesh is always dubbed as Pro Pakistani ,the NA of Pakistan has given the seal to that propaganda."
It is not just a propaganda. The JeI Bangladesh are not only pro-Pakistan but do indeed consider themselves Pakistanis. They actively colluded with the Pakistani army in 1971 in the horrible genocide. With the pronouncements and NA resolutions, this fact is now confirmed by Pakistan.
salute to u pakistanis...you are doing a great job by supporting a murdere and rapist..do you even have any idea about what happened in 1971?do you know how they deprived us?please go through the newspapers published at that time..then come and talk..stupid ppl..stop thinking about our country..you have so much to worry about your own country.morons!!
Bangla Desh should ignore such useless resolutions, which are not worth lodging a protest as India does on many such passed against it by the Pak NA.
@kamal: Very good analysis of history. I appreciate your analysis and wisdom. Here is a comment where history is teaching us something which we did not pay attention. I hope moderator will allow my comment to go thru
@Raja Islam: Pakistan got independence from the Brits, not India. Learn your history.
@ Raj, USA: excellent suggestion.There are also three million Bengalis living in Karachi alone. It would be a fair exchange. Somehow I don't think the BD Government wants these people to come back to live in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is an independent country.We should keep away and should avoid burning our fingers in the furnace of the country.Jamaat-e-Islami there is citizen of Bangladesh and is an influential component of the strong opposition headed by Khalida Zia of Bangladesh National Party (BNP).This strong opposition can grapple the government effectively.Our Jamaat-e-Islami is interfering in the affairs of Egypt also. Imran Khan is a puppet of Jamaat-e-Islami.But Chaudhri Nisar you should not play in the hands of the Jamaat.and issue statements against Bangladesh irresponsibly.You claim to be heavy mandate government and in this intoxication if any thing occurs to the interest of the country people would not spare you.
Bangladesh should now pass a resolution condemning the brutal attack by Pakistanis on Balochistan.
Why Pakistan is taking side for a murderer Kader Molla who raped 11 old muslim girl in 1971 in the name of Islam. Infact Molla has polluted Islam.
I give my heartiest shame to those MP who pass the bill in the parliament. Seems like 1971 is not enough for you .. you need another treat from Bangladesh. I suggest you look yourself to build your nation. I would like to point out those politician and army who were involved in 1971 war , before you DIE , you should pray to Allah to forgive you for the things you did in 1971 if you really believe in Allah . you killed 3 million Bangali . How you feel when your family get sick or ill ? Your pakistani Army took atleast 1 person from every house to kill in the war .Keeping all the respect to the country Pakistan, I give Shame to your parliamenterian .. and shame to those Pakistani citizen who support this.
@Bangali: Dear, believe me we have much regard for you and do not like interfering in your affairs.But it is my wish that we should now bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones.After all are brotherly countries.Blood is thicker than water.
@Raj - USA: "(2) Pakistan should take the 3 million Bihari refugees still languishing in camps in Bangladesh." If it had been 3 million, it would be understandable if Pakistan would plead poverty. As it is, those Biharis are just 300,000 in number. And, as if that was not shameful and disgraceful enough, Agha Khan offered to Pakistan all transportation costs for those wretched Biharis, even then they are still rotting in those camps, too proud as Pakistanis to take Bangladeshi nationality. Those who got Pakistan for the Muslims of Indian subcontinent do not have the will to take on such a small number of their coreligionists who suffered in the cause of Pakistan all their lives.
@just_you: "By the way, it’s GO suck a lemon, not DO suck a lemon." OK, if you have to nitpick: "DO GO SUCK A LEMON"
@Parvez: The soft power of India.
@Parvez: The leader you support also did to keep quiet did he?
@Aalia: India got 8 million refugees and India could not bear such an economic burden. Indira went all over the world to try to get the genocide stopped but no one stepped in. In the end, Ndia had to step in because it could not have allowed an endless stream of refugees into India. Thus it only got involved because it was being severely affected by Pakistan's actions.
I think, Pakistanis should learn something from their BIG BROTHER - Bangladesh, that is on the path of becoming one of the most modern, secular, progressive economy of Indian Sub-continent. It is better that Pakistan should start the proceedings for banning Pakistani-Jamat and prosecuting its leaders as soon as possible. Not much time has passed when Pakistani Jamat leaders were telling that Pakistani army-men fighting with Talibani insurgents are not martyrs.
My view is like this:
(1) Bangladesh should gracefully forgive Pakistan and not insist on public apology from Pakistan for the 1971 atrocities.
However, before this
(2) Pakistan should take the 3 million Bihari refugees still languishing in camps in Bangladesh.
How stupid can a country be when it refuses to take those who were very patriotic to them during the entire war and even after the war ended and Bangladesh was formed. They risked everything and are still standing for Pakistan and only a very foolish country or a country without any moral values can ignore them. There is no one else who are more patriotic to Pakistan than these 3 million Biharis in Bangladesh's refugee camps.
I wrote another comment elsewhere in ET today which is very relevant to this. Here is the link to that other news in ET today. http://tribune.com.pk/story/646694/lawyers-urge-government-to-raise-mollas-hanging-in-international-court/
@Wasif: the world blames pakisran for mumbai attacks. The world blames pakistan for hiding osama. The world blames pakistan for nuclear proliferation. The world blames pakistan for being rge epicentre of terror. Butwe as usual keep debying it and blamong the world for it
@M. Emad: Do it. Who is stopping you?
@Sara: ET.....an American newspaper, really ??.......always thought it was Indian :-)
Why should Bangladesh care about any resolution passed by a failed country ? Pakistan's National assembly is a joke and full of war mongers and jihadist mind set. Nobody in world cares what they say. If Pakistan has issue with Bangladesh's decision they should close their embassy in Bangladesh and move out. Seems like 1971 was not enough to teach them any lesson.
@all indians commenting here if this is poking in internal matters of BD then what were indian agents and army doing in separation war of east pakistan? WAS IT NOT POKiNg?
@Wasif:
Nobody called it that except Punjabis who have a vested interest in hiding their crimes.
@Sara:
Why? They are already doing a great job of hanging the '71 genocide culprits.
ET is infested by indians from the comments I see.
Our ambassador in Dhaka had three last names. Summon him to explain that first. Outrage.
Pakistan should mind there own business.Otherwise it will become like another syria !
@Pr0udPakistani: Every one knows in this world that who is the self destructed country.We are progressing much faster than your failed country pakistan.
Hanging of someone who stood for united Pakistan isn't Hasina Wajid's internal matter. My salute to Ch. Nisar and Imran Khan.
@Kareem: The only reason Germany is chasing its WW2 demons is because the Jews truly had and documented 6-7 million dead. There is no proof that 3 million Bengalis were killed in 9 months by a 2-division strong Pakistan Army in East Pakistan.
T20 Worldcup should b shifted from Bangladesh to Srilanka. ICC should take decision b4 it is late.
@JD:
Such as Mumbai attacks?
@Maula Jatt:
I only see Punjabis complaining about it, not anyone else. Punjabis have something to hide on this matter so their commotion is understandable.
Pakistan should have kept quiet.......but doing the right thing has never been our strong point.
Even the Turkish Prime Minister condemned the senseless trial. Let's not even get started with the response in the international human rights circles. Obviously Bangladesh has gone nuts.
Every single person who was part of dividing Pakistan had unfortunate fate for self and his/her family, Mujeeb, Bhutto and Indra Gandhi.
@Jihad Bil-Qalam:
BD has no parliament, Liberals in both Pakistan and BD have sold their souls to Dollars.
@Javed: What a superiarty complex.
I would strongly advise the Bangladeshi parliament to pass a resolution of condemnation for the resolutions passed in the Pakistani National and Punjab Assembly. Dear Bangladeshis, this is one thing you have got to do. Hats off to Bangladeshi liberals.
I think justice is necessary.Bangladesh should request the UN and the UN should direct the International court of justice to set up a tribunal to prosecute all involved in 1971 war crimes in Bangladesh weather they are in Bangladesh, Pakistan or in India they are all needed to be brought to justice every living personal involved in 1971 war..............If Germany is still still chasing the WW2 Nazi criminals and prosecuting them then why Bangladesh has the right......
We should issue them an apology over the past rather than put out our chest at this stuff. Pakistan is disgusting and a born, bred and patriotic Pakistan. (Anyone who questions my patriotism based on my criticism can do suck a lemon!)
This is our internal matter.It is better to oil your own machine.
The Pak NA Resolution was just not called for. It is BD internal matter. This NA resolution was pushed by JI and supported by all the right wingers like PTI,PMLN & PTI. This resolution was just not necessary. We should concentrate in our internal affairs rather poking nose in other country issues.I am a bit confused because intially just after Molla's hanging MFA spokesman said it was BD internal issue and now PMLN has supported the NA Resolution.....typical NS....confused protoplasm.
I think Bangladesh is right. Let them deal with their own problems. Their current govt. is a puppet of another country and they are going in the direction of self destruction so good for them.
@Maula Jatt: ??? "targeting of Muslims" Bangladesh is a Muslim majority state.
@Javed: I would not label Bengalis as traitors. When the majority of a country seeks independence from the minority then there is something seriously wrong. If the creation of Bangladesh was something akin to secession and treated as a great wrong then what would you like to say about the creation of Pakistan? It is the same philosophy.
@Munaf: brainwashed and financially supported by RAW, as claimed by indian army general.
@Maula Jatt: Seriously? LOL.
I think Bangladesh is right. Let them deal with their own problems.
Sheikh Haseena is creating chaos in Bangladesh everyday to please her hindu nationalist masters in India. God help.
Mind your own business haven't you'll seen what jamait Islamia done to your country.
The envoy should also have been handed a list asking for immediate handing over of all war criminals that are living in Pakistan. Also in parallel, Bangladesh should initiate steps to find out and ask for other countries where ever those war criminals are residing (viz. Canada, UK, UAE etc) and bring them to Bangladesh for war crimes trial.
We have the habit of poking our nose in unneccessary conflicts. More muslims are slaughtered by Muslims inside the Islamic Republic EVERY SINGLE DAY.. Why not just focus on that?
Anything that is linked to another country is not an internal matter.
Great response by our commissioner. Good job. The entire Muslim world is fed up with Bangladesh's government targeting of Muslims.
Bangladesh should kicked-out Pakistani High Commissioner in Dhaka -- financing Jamaati cadre in Bangladesh.
Yesterday's Traitors are now summoning the HC of Pakistan..... look where we stand today!
Good.
we pakistanis are concerned about everything else in the world expect putting our own house in order.
