ISLAMABAD: Government has given administrative control over the process of thumb impression verification to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), said Interior Minister Chuadhry Nisar Ali Khan, Radio Pakistan reported.

Nisar clarified that NADRA systems have not been transferred to ECP, rather, the commission has only been given administrative control for three months over the specific process in thumb impression verification.

He was responding to the point raised by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi and supported by Pakistan Peoples Party's Naveed Qamar and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.

Nisar said that the move is intended to satisfy the opposition and it is subject to consensus of the ECP.

The minister said the process of thumb verification should not be confined to only four constituencies as petitions by other parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) were also pending for many other constituencies.

He further clarified that the removal of NADRA chairman had nothing to do with verification of thumb impressions.

The interior minister said that the Opposition should appreciate the intention of the government as it is transferring its powers just to satisfy them.

Nisar added that government would welcome evolution of a transparent mechanism for holding of local bodies elections and Punjab government is ready to replicate the bio-metric voting system if it is developed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government.

The minister also offered government's support to the Opposition if it introduces a bill that ensures holding of fair and transparent elections and strengthening the ECP.

PTI wants government to complete its tenure

Refuting rumors that he had talked about mid-term elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan said that he has not talked about mid-term elections, instead, PTI wants the PML-N government to complete its tenure.

He further said that while the PTI has reservations regarding other constituencies, it has challenged the results of only four constituencies in the supreme court and largely accepts the results of general elections.

There is a need to clear the mist for the sake of future of Pakistan as other parties have also leveled allegations of rigging in the election, said Imran.

@Muslim Leaguer: So asking for your rights makes you a crybaby? Why is N League so afraid of vote verification? N supporters never answer any of these question but instead keep on bashing PTI and IK

PTI will always remain a cry baby http://tribune.com.pk/story/599663/pp-150-recount-pml-n-candidate-mian-marghoob-wins/ its response was pathetic after the recount of pp-150. The world is moving ahead but Imran Khan is swinging in circles. Any further recount should only be allowed if Imran Khan gives a written undertaking to the nation that he will resign if his insistence fails again. PTI is led by its Lifetime Chairman being a former Cricketer but he lacks sportsman spirit. My entire family regrets voting for PTI in the last elections. After realizing our mistake we all have pledged that InshaAllah, we will never vote again for PTI.
