Dengue cases in Lahore rise to 181

Dengue cases reported from Dharam Pura, Iqbal Town, Band Road, GT Road, Misri Shah, Shad Bagh and other areas.

LAHORE: The rising number of dengue fever cases in Pakistan went up on Tuesday, as Lahore reported a total number of 181 cases from several areas in the city.

The cases are being report from Dharam Pura, Mughal Pura, Iqbal Town, Band Road, GT Road, Misri Shah, Shad Bagh and other areas.

Teams from the Department of Epidemic Diseases (District Government) have been spraying insecticides all over the city, while the department has advised residents to remove tyres and open-air water storage areas as these are potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

This year has so far been the worst overall, with doctors comparing this year’s numbers with those of 2006, which was said to be a record-breaking year. That year, the government cell reported a total of 4,561 cases (July – 41 cases, August – 61, September – 199, October 1,639, November 2,297 and December 304) and 12 fatalities. They are saying that this year is worse because October has not yet ended and there are already 1,300 cases.
