The minister’s statement follows PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and the PML-Q leadership’s endorsement of a PTI protest against inflation, scheduled for December 22. Rashid drew comparisons between the performance of the PML-N’s federal and Punjab government and the PTI-led government in Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa, saying that Imran should hold the protest at Minar-e-Pakistan instead of on The Mall if he was still confident of his popularity.
The information minister warned against sit-ins against the PML-N government’s development and democratic achievements, commenting that prices of commodities in Peshawar are higher than in Lahore. He added that Imran’s popularity has taken a blow over the last six months as he failed to deliver on his promises in K-P and termed the PTI chief’s prediction of fresh elections in June 2014 an ‘immature approach’.
According to Rashid, Imran Khan may raise the issue of inflation at forums like parliament, whereas sit-ins only curbed democratic and development progress.
