LAHORE:

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Senator Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain said on Sunday any hasty decisions regarding General Musharraf’s trial for high treason could haunt the government for a long time

He said Musharraf was being tried without the cabinet’s approval. He said Musharraf was being victimised and the trial violated the norms of justice.

Hussain said he had gotten the impression that the case had not been formally discussed in the cabinet so that there had been no decision by the cabinet in this regard.

He said haste made by the government could prove to be a “garland of thorns” for them. He said the trial apparently was an attempt by the government to distract people from the real problems. Hussain said the rising prices had made the lives of people miserable. He said unemployment was rampant and there was a severe shortage of electricity.

He said the government was ignoring the pressing issues and had forgotten its election promises.

Now where are the self-proclaimed intellectuals who were claiming that because of US pressure nothing can happen to Musharraf and even he cannot be arrested?
