Close calls: PML-N Bajaur official escapes IED blast

Assailants throw grenades inside CAA official’s house in Shabqadar.

SHABQADAR/ KHAR: A remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) targeting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Bajaur Agency General Secretary Gul Kareem Khan exploded in Tangi, Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur Agency of Sunday. Gul, however, escaped unhurt.

Political administration official Sardar Yousaf said the general secretary was on his way to Khar, headquarters of the agency, from his village Tangi around 8:30am when the blast occurred. He added unidentified militants detonated the IED as the car passed. Gul escaped unhurt but his vehicle was completely destroyed.

Security officials and levies launched a search in the area, and arrested five suspects under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation, added the official.

Shabqadar

Meanwhile, in Mathra, Shabqadar, unidentified people lobbed two grenades inside the hujra of a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) official, damaging his car.

Fazal Subhan, an official of Battagram police station said CAA Senior Vigilance Officer Shabbir Khan was at home when the incident occurred. One of the grenades exploded, damaging Shabbir’s car but the other failed to detonate,” said Subhan. He added that the bomb disposal squad defused the other grenade.

Shabbir, who is employed at the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, did not nominate anyone in the FIR.
