All-rounder Shahid Afridi is not going to take part in South Africa’s domestic Twenty20 cricket league this season.

Afridi, who is currently representing Pakistan in the series against Sri Lanka in the UAE, wants to spend time with his family.

“I have decided to pull out of the Domestic T20 tournament in South Africa due to family commitments”, Afridi told The Express Tribune.

The former national captain is one of the most sought after players in the shortest version of the game. He became the first player to make 1000 runs and take 50 wickets in the format during the on-going T20 series against Sri Lanka.

He was set to represent the Knights in South Africa’s domestic T20 league.

With only all-rounder Sohail Tanvir and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal making up the contingent, Cricket South Africa are keen to invite more Pakistan players in the premier tournament after reaching an understanding earlier with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Alexander Graham Bell

I remember people were fuming at the arrogance of the team owners when Pakistani players were not chosen to play for the IPL teams. Important thing is to persevere, work hard, be ethical, and keep the sportsman's spirit. Ultimately you will be sought after in better environs with respect and dignity. In addition to playing skills it would be so nice to see Pakistani players be role models to the young people in terms of character, honesty, integrity, and distinction. Looking back, we had an abundance of that type of players: Fazal Mahmood, A.H. Kardar, Haneef Mohammed, Asif Iqbal, Javed Miandad and multitudes of others.
