JAMRUD: An anti-polio campaign will officially be launched in Jamrud, Khyber Agency later this week.

Political administration official Asmatullah Wazir kicked off the pre-drive at Jamrud jirga hall by vaccinating a child along with Agency Surgeon Sameen Shinwari.

While addressing tribesmen gathered at the hall, Shinwari said the official campaign will begin soon, in which 127,000 children will be vaccinated against the disease. He said 328 mobile teams will be assigned various areas of the agency to administer anti-polio drops to children. He added 29 fixed and five transit teams will be deployed at various places in the agency.

Shinwari further said residents should take the initiative against the crippling disease by immunising their children as after the recent detection of new polio cases, the agency’s children were more vulnerable. Stressing that vaccination is the only preventive measure against the disease, Shinwari appealed to tribesmen and elders to cooperate with vaccination teams in their respective areas.
