KARACHI: Medium pacer Imran Ali continued to enjoy an impressive season as his five-for helped SNGPL defeat PTV by 188 runs in their President’s Trophy fifth round match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

PTV resumed day four on 48 for three and were bowled out on 137 in 40.3 overs as Yasim Murtaza top-scored with 31. Imran, who took three wickets in the first-innings, gave away just 38 runs for his scalps while Samiullah Niazi and Yasir Shah claimed two wickets apiece.

Another player who played an important part in the victory was Taufeeq Umar, with an innings of 128 not out and 63 in the match, which were equally important for the team.

SNGPL took maximum nine points for the outright win, which brought their overall tally to 37 points from five matches as they comfortably sit atop of the points table.

“It wasn’t an easy wicket initially but we still managed to have a decent score in the first-innings,” a SNGPL player told The Express Tribune.

“The bowlers responded back to restrict PTV to small scores in both innings and that is how teams win when everyone performs their duties.

“It’s a good sign for us that both our batting and bowling are clicking at the moment, but there are five matches left in the event. Anything can happen and we must not get complacent.”

Talha destroys ZTBL with 11 wickets

Speedster Mohammad Talha took 11 wickets in the match to bowl PQA to a seven-wicket win against ZTBL at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

ZTBL were all out for 337 after resuming the day on 223 for four with Talha, who took six wickets earlier, claiming a five-wicket haul while Mohammad Sami and Abdur Rauf bagged two scalps each.

Set a target of 144, PQA raced to 146 for three in 24.5 overs with Mohammad Salman scoring a quick-fire 66 not out while Daniyal Ahsan remained unbeaten on 33.

PQA also received nine points from the match while the PIA-KRL and SBP-Wapda matches ended in a draw.
