LAHORE:

Finnish Ambassador Rauli Suikkanen hosted a dinner here on Saturday to mark the Independence Day of the Republic of Finland and called for deeper economic ties between Finland and Pakistan, according to a press release.

In addition to Finnish companies Nokia Solutions (telecom), Wärtsilä (energy), and the Stora-Enso/Packages (pulp and packaging) project, state-owned Finpro is set to open offices in the country. Finnish companies have a lot to offer in energy, clean technologies, biomass, paper, metal and mining industries, the ambassador said. He also announced the appointment of the new Honorary Consul of Finland Dr Durre Ahmed, noting that she was the only woman in such a post in Lahore.

The ambassador also expressed eagerness to strengthen cultural ties and referred to the new cooperation linking Finnish and Pakistani museum associations. Faisalabad’s Lyallpur Museum is to be a key player in the programme.
