Man killed in shootout with police

A case was registered against Ishfaq and four others.

A man was killed in a shootout with the police on Thursday.


Bahauddin Zakariya police said deceased was identified as Zehri Mohana, a wanted robber.

They said Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Ishfaq, both residents of the Panj Koh area, had had a dispute over money.

On Thursday night, they said, Ishfaq and his armed accomplices broke into Ali’s house and forcibly took away his cattle.

Ali sought help from some neighbours, who followed Ishfaq and his men.

Police were also informed.

When Ishfaq and his accomplices did not stop on police orders, they were shot at. They shot back. The firing continued for 30 minutes before one of the men was killed. Two of them were arrested, while Ishfaq and the rest of the men fled. Those arrested were identified as Kamran Shafi and Sajid Islam.

Police said they found illegal weapons and bullets of the body. They said he was identified as a wanted criminal. They said he was wanted for 40 robberies across the district.

A case was registered against Ishfaq and four others. Police said they were looking for Ishfaq.

35 pistols, magazines recovered

Separately, Jahanian police recovered heavy amount of illegal weapons from a suspicious looking car that they had stopped for security check. Two men were arrested.

Police said they stopped a Lodhran-bound car at a picket and recovered 35 pistols and magazines from it. The driver and his accomplice, identified as Abdul Ghafoor and Asad, both residents of Sargodha, were arrested. The car was impounded.
