
Hassan Khan, a police official from Sardheri police station, confirmed the blast took place at 6am when the van was en route from Sardheri Bazaar to the station after a routine check. The IED, which was planted by the roadside near Rahimia Chowk, was remotely detonated.
The injured police officials were taken to District Headquarters Hospital Charsadda. Khan said Ali and Rahman were out of danger, and the bomb disposal squad was inspecting the explosives.
The following search operation yielded no arrests. The police have registered an FIR against unidentified men.
In an unrelated incident, a man wanted by the Rawalpindi police in the alleged murder case of a sub-inspector (SI) was caught in a raid in Charsadda on Friday.
City police station official Ijaz Khan said they had received information from Ratanwal police about the suspect hiding in Solai Qamar in Rajar. The suspect was identified as Aftab, a resident of Pir Wadhai in Rawalpindi. Ijaz added after confirming details with the police in Rawalpindi, they conducted a raid on a house in Solai Qamar.
Aftab was wanted for the murder of SI Azhar Baloch on September 20, 2012. The police said Aftab will be handed over to the police in Rawalpindi for further investigation.
