Embarrassing graffiti

Letter December 06, 2013
I feel as if the whole of our country suffers from “posheeda amraaz”.

LAHORE: When I travel, I observe the walls around, especially on my way to Multan. I feel as if the whole of our country suffers from “posheeda amraaz”. There are fewer platforms for people to express their emotions, hence, they write on walls. Although it is a heinous act that destroys the beauty of the city and increases pollution, some people consider it a means to promote their business.

Wall chalking is found everywhere in Lahore. It is also considered a cheap means of advertising products/services, etc. People fail to realise that this type of activity not only destroys the beauty of a city but also promotes indecency and stains the image of the local public in the eyes of a foreigner. It tends to show that our public is uneducated and illiterate. The vandalism of cities must be stopped before it gets too late and all our walls are filled with useless messages. It is about time that the public realises that by doing this, it is vandalising their own home.
