Electricity through traffic flow: Mexico develops low-cost system

ISLAMABAD: Mexican entrepreneurs have developed a new low-cost system that can generate electricity using traffic flow and the technology could soon be used to light up cities. The system has the potential to produce sufficient electricity to power a household through a device that ‘catches’ the force of the moving cars, Science Daily reported. “This technology provides sustainable energy and can be implemented at low prices,” said system developer of the project Hector Ricardo Macias Hernandez. He said that there are no records of similar projects at a global level with the exception of an English patent, though the difference being that European countries are using piezoelectric floors which are too expensive for developing countries.
