Protest over the financial crisis on Monday paralysed the educational activities at University of Balochistan (UoB) as all academics and staff walked off and suspended their work.

“We have not been paid our monthly salaries,” said Academic Staff Association (ASA) President Kalimullah Badech. The association, protesting inside the university, asked the provincial government to address the issues.

Addressing to the protestors, the members of the ASA – Dr Kaleem Ullah Bareech, Professor Abdul Baqi Jattak, Haji Abdul Aziz Langov, Alaam Khan Kharoti and others – said the government had failed to deliver on its promises, adding that there was no money for the payment of the teachers’ salaries.

How can the dream of higher education be realised under such circumstances, they asked. The protestors demanded that the current UoB vice-chancellor should be removed immediately and a new VC appointed as the current varsity head, according to them, did not have the capability to run the institution.
