Historical monument: DCO wants clock Tower rehabilitated

The DCO also ordered to remove electricity poles around the tower.

District Coordination Officer Noorul Amen Mengal on Sunday ordered the clock at city’s centre Clock Tower to be repaired. The DCO visited the Clock Tower Chowk on Sunday and said that the monument should be preserved.


He said additional staff would also be provided to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in the surrounding area. He said city government must fine those throwing litter around the tower.

The DCO said that the previous caretaker of the Clock Tower should be reinstated and given a reasonable stipend.  He said experts would be hired for its rehabilitation. He formed a committee comprising AC, the Anjuman Tajran president and its general secretary and ordered them to submit proposals and suggestions for the rehabilitation of the Clock Tower. The DCO also ordered to remove electricity poles around the tower and directed the officials concerned to ensure that its fountains were made functional.
