Auto show: Vintage vehicles descend on capital

Two-day event saw go-karting grand prix and classic car rally.

ISLAMABAD: Thousands thronged Lake View Park on Sunday to witness a diverse display of cars at a vintage auto show.

The two-day show, which culminated on Sunday, was organised by Pakwheels.com, an online community of Pakistani car enthusiasts with over 300,000 members.

The show was held at the “2F2F Karting Club” at the park. The event started on Saturday with a karting grand prix and got in to full drive on Sunday with vintage, sports and custom-made cars arriving from Peshawar after a rally there the day before.



Car enthusiasts from all over the country participated in the auto show, coming from as far as Karachi to display their beauties in the capital. Members of the Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan, the Islamabad Jeep Club, the Islamabad Underground Club and others displayed their cars at the show.

People visiting the event said they were excited to see an auto show in the capital. Those who attended said they appreciated the show for helping portray a better image of Pakistan. Pakwheels had also held an auto show in Islamabad in 2o12 at the Fatima Jinnah Park.

Pakwheels.com Director and co-founder, Suneel Sarfaraz Munj, said Pakwheels is committed to bringing more events for automobile enthusiasts in Pakistan.

“This year, we have gone a step further and organised a two-day festival which included a karting championship and an auto show among other things,” Munj said.

The auto festival also included movie montages, live music and fireworks. The festival was sponsored by Shell Helix and Warid Telecomm.
