KARACHI: Security has been beefed up at police stations around the city following an attack at the Landhi police station.

The police station came under attack on Friday when unidentified assailants threw a cracker at it. According to law enforcement officials, the attack could be a reaction of the arrests to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members that were made earlier in the day.

“Arrested TTP men were locked up at the Landhi police station when it was attacked,” Landhi division SP Faisal Noor informed The Express Tribune. “After the attack, we shifted the criminals to an undisclosed location for security reasons.” A case has been registered against the attacks and investigations are underway.

All police stations, especially those situated in TTP strongholds such as Landhi, Quaidabad, Sohrab Goth, Manghopir, Pirabad, Madina Colony and Baldia Town, have been directed to increase security to avoid any potential attack.

Law enforcement agencies are being targeted regularly in the city, which certain officials have termed as revenge for the arrests made during the ongoing operation in the city. Two policemen were shot dead and another was wounded when armed militants attacked a police mobile last week. The mobile was positioned for snap checking in the Nazimabad locality. The attack was found to be a reaction of the killing of TTP members by law enforcement agencies during a raid in the Baldia locality.
