ISLAMABAD: General Rashad Mahmood, who was announced as the new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJSC) on Wednesday, assumed charge of his new role on Thursday, Express News reported.

A guard of honour comprising of contingents from the tri-services was also presented to Mahmood, who was the principal staff officer (PSO) to General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

On arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters he was received by the Director General Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Muhammad Asif.

Later, Director Generals of the Joint Staff Headquarters were introduced to the new Chairman.

Kayani will hand the baton to his successor Lieutenant General Raheel Sharif, who will become Pakistan’s 15th Army chief as of Friday.

On his last day as chief of army staff, Kayani held a farewell meeting at the Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Profile

Rashad was the operational and intelligence eyes and ears of Kayani. As commander of Lahore's IV Corps, he had interacted with the Sharifs when their party were in power in Punjab in the previous administration.

He is perceived as being close to the US because of his stint at Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as well as for his work on countering Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Like Kayani, he is also from the Baloch regiment.

@manqul.... I am very glad you have MBA degree with you but what you lack is common sense, nobody in Pakistan can survive with just monthly pay, people invest their money in different places like for example stock exchange, properties, any project with friends or colleagues, by this careful planning the money is multiplied and and then is used for the education of children and a good life style. Yes no one is perfect but your take on the army's top like that looks like you some personal vendetta against them. An army general gets his 3 stars after 35 years of service, that's quite a lot of time for him for to plan and invest. Even you can do it if you plan your future carefully, and trust me you don't need an MBA degree for this :)

The Pakistan Army Generals must not be paid more than 10 times the average pay per year. In the western Countries the most senior Generals are paid about 10 time per year the average pay. The average pay in US of a person is $25,000 dollars per year. So the top US General pay is about $250,000 dollars per year. In Pakistan the average person pay is about 50,000 rupees per year. So the Pakistan top Army General must be paid no more than 500,000 rupees per year. 500,000 rupees is $5,300 dollars per year. No Pakistan General should be able to afford to educate their children in the Western Countries because it costs about $50,000 dollars per year for a person to be educated in a Western Country. also No Pakistan General should be able to buy a new car that is made in the Western Country. If any Pakistan Army General is educating their child in the Western Country of buying a new car then the only way to have the money is corruption. Trust me I have an MBA. Let me audit any of these Generals to prove it.
