ISLAMABAD:

The Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting in its meeting on Tuesday directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to comply with the existing code of conduct.

The meeting, chaired by Senator Kamil Ali Agha, suggested that there was a need to revise the 2006 laws regarding airing foreign content.

Agha said that the code of conduct should be drafted and then enforced taking all the stakeholders in confidence. He observed that a large number of cases are still pending in the courts and must be redressed soon.

The chairman further asked Pemra to take steps which could put a stop to the ‘abusive advertisements’ and contents on the TV channels.

Speaking in the meeting, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid called for revising the state broadcasting policy and stated that the ministry was working on various projects, which would improve the standard of broadcasting.
