The protest had turned violent after police launched a baton-charge on the lawyers for forcing entry into the apex court's building.
The sit-in, which began around 9:00am, was meant to press for the establishment of high court benches in five cities of Punjab, namely Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Express News correspondent Muhammad Bilal reported that the police took to shelling and baton-charge after the protesters managed to break in.
They successfully drove the lawyers out of the building, but the commotion around the court's entrance gates carried on for some time.
The clashes reportedly injured at least 14 lawyers including the Islamabad Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Ali, besides the Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zubair.
The protesters pelted stones at the building which shattered several of the building's windows.

The establishment of high court benches at divisional head quarters of gujranwala, faisalabad, sargodha and dera ghazi khan is the right of the people living in these divisions of punjab. Punjab has eight divisional head quarters and when 4 out of them namely lahore, multan, rawalpindi and bahawalpur have high court benches then the people from remaining four divisions are justified in their demand for the establishment of high court benches in their respective divisional head quarters. We should fully support the lawyers demand from these division´s and condemn their mistreatment by police.
A lawyer, a policeman, a piles patient and a wheel of the car must be orderly smeared.
Layers r thives they should punish
...and why not five Chief Ministers in these five cities ????
I don't understand why things had to go so bad over simple request of setting up multiple courts in big cities?
And some of these illiterates will some day be sitting in judgement of their fellow population.
Go Isb Police go teach these lawyers a lesson
Pakistan has plenty of illiterates in black coats
This is the right way to get noticed..:)
Soon we are going to have courts in these cities..cheers..:)
De Javu anyone? Why this happens only in nawaz government? :D
It was a pleasure watching the misbehaved judicial goons getting a befitting reply from Police.
