Rs3 billion embezzled in BISP under PPP govt, claims Auditor General

Auditor General of Pakistan Akhtar Buland Rana claimed on Sunday that the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), initiated by the last government, had seen irregularities worth Rs3 billion under the Pakistan People's Party government, Radio Pakistan on Sunday.

Rana said in an interview that recoveries worth Rs57 billion had been made during the last two years.


He mentioned that irregularities amounting to Rs14 billion were discovered in the universal fund of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

According to Rana, the identification of mega financial scams like the Rental Power Plants‚ Pakistan Steel Mills‚ Haj corruption‚ NICL and EOBI scams should be credited to the office of Auditor General.

In response to a question, Rana said mal-administration and corruption in institutions had rendered the State spineless. He said corruption could be overcome if the administrative structure of these institutions was improved.
