Muslim FC raised their game in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as they defeated HBL 1-0 yesterday.
With the win, the Chaman-based club now have 32 points, equalling league leaders KESC. However, the Karachi-based club has a better goal average than Muslim FC.
Muslim FC won their ninth match in the season after toiling hard against HBL. Both teams played a goalless first half, and Hayatullah only scored the winner for his team in the second minute of injury time in the second half.
They have won nine matches out of 17, drawn five and lost three so far. On the other hand, HBL continue to hold on to the ninth place with 18 points.
In the second match of the day, defending champions KRL defeated Navy 1-0.
This match also saw a goalless first-half, while KRL’s key striker Kaleemullah scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute.
“All teams are playing very defensively now,” Kaleemullah told The Express Tribune. “As the season will progress, the teams will get even more defensive in their approach”.
Kaleemullah, who scored more than 30 goals last season, said he will be taking a shot at the prize for the top-scorer this time as well.
“We still have time; I picked up the pace gradually even last year. Our captain Samar Ishaq is injured, which is also affecting us.“The weather conditions in Karachi are not suiting us as well. The weather in Lahore will be cool and the football field in Lahore are also greener and in better condition,” he concluded.
KRL now have 18 points after playing eight matches.
