Musharraf trial: Govt nominates Akram Sheikh as lawyer

Sheikh has earlier served as legal counsel for Mansoor Ijaz.

The federal government on Friday nominated Akram Sheikh as its lawyer in the former president Pervez Musharraf treason case, Express News reported. 

Akram Sheikh is considered to be a lawyer of great stature and had previously served as legal counsel for Mansoor Ijaz, who was involved in the memogate scandal.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had finalised the names of three judges for the 'special court' which the government requested for a trial against Musharraf.

Sindh High Court’s Justice Faisal Arab is to head the bench while Justice Tahira Safdar of the Balochistan High Court and Justice Yawar Ali of the Lahore High Court are the other two judges on the bench.

Express News correspondent Aamir Ilyas Rana had reported that Justice Arab was appointed as head on account of being the most senior judge among between the three.
