Thor sequel premieres in Rawalpindi.

ISLAMABAD:

The second feature film headlined by Marvel’s version of the Norse god of thunder opened on Wednesday at the opulent Cine Gold Plex movie theatre in Bahria Town.

The well-attended premiere event saw a host of fans young and old coming to join Thor on his journey back to Asgard.

The event was organised by Ufone to highlight the new Uth package.

Usman Zahid, media consultant for the cinema, spoke of the support that cinemas like Cine Gold Plex give through quality premiere events, while giving the example of Pakistani hit WAAR and Fast & Furious 6 premieres at the same cinema.

Although this premiere was less glitzy than has been the norm with big-budget Hollywood movies — only a few cardboard cutouts of the characters were placed — the crowd was just as enthusiastic as is now expected for a superhero spectacular.

Rabiya Ansari, a student, had come with high hopes after hearing that the sequel was better than the original.

Another student, Ehsan Naveed agreed, while adding that “heavy expectations are attached to the film because of the success of The Avengers”. Those expectations were almost certainly met by the movie, which minus the rather forced use of 3-D, was an entertaining two-hour extravaganza full of loyal comic book plotlines, beautiful sets, special effects and things that go boom.

Shahid Nazir of ‘One Pound Fish’ fame said it was “an outstanding movie” while expressing his happiness that theatre attendance and the cinema industry is growing again in Pakistan.

Shahid also mentioned that he has a new song coming out next month, the video of which is presently under production.

Meanwhile, for those thinking of waiting to watch the movie at home, attendee Mrs Zia said, “Its a movie worth seeing on the big screen which is why we’ve come from Islamabad for it”.
