LAHORE: Six Pakistani detainees have been released from Bagram prison in Afghanistan by US authorities and repatriated to Pakistan. Authorities in Pakistan have kept them incommunicado, not disclosing details of their release, The Express Tribune learnt on Tuesday. US Department of Justice disclosed this in a letter to the US court of appeals as the court was hearing case for custody of one of the detainees named Hamidullah. The letter stated that “Hamidullah, who was previously detained by the Department of Defence at the Bagram Air Force Base, was transferred to the custody of Pakistan.” Advocate Maryam Haq, the counsel pursuing the case of detainees before the Lahore High Court, told The Express Tribune that it is confirmed that all six detainees were released and handed over.
