Arrested: Three extortionists caught

Two alleged extortionists were arrested by the police on Monday.


The DPO of Yar Hussain police station, Sajjad Khan, claimed the men were held at a check point near Jaganat Bridge.

The suspects were identified as Arshid Khan and Wajidullah. The police also recovered weapons from them including, two hand grenades, two pistols, 31 bullets and an explosive planted in a canister which was defused by an official from the bomb disposal squad.

Khan said that during the interrogation, the culprits confessed to the murder of social activist Umra Khan, a resident of Dagai; Awal Sher of Mathra, Muhammad Rehman of Qasim Palah, CID official Pervaiz, Khanadan, resident of Akora Khattak, Aman Lashker’s Umar Khan and Sherbaz Khan of Mohmand Agency for not paying their extortion money on time. Khan added the suspects were going to plant the explosives near Wazir Muhammad Advocate’s house as a warning to pay up.

The police also arrested another extortionist identified as Shah Jahan on a tip off from Arshid and Wajidullah.
