Multi Donor Trust Fund: Denmark launches development plan

ISLAMABAD:
Denmark’s Minister for Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bachearly, launched a new development programme for 2013-16 in Pakistan earlier this month. According to sources, Denmark will increase its commitment from $8 million annually to $14 million over the next three and half years as a continuation of the first program launched in 2010. The support will be provided through a Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) with a total budget of $15 million, which is administered by the World Bank and implemented by the provincial authorities. Denmark will spend $50 million for programmes which will focus on economic and democratic development, education, human rights and gender equality in Pakistan. The MDTF program will also focus on reconstruction and economic development in the areas bordering Afghanistan and will strengthen the order of the state.
