KARACHI: A two member bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Shaukat Ali Memon while hearing a plea for cancelling the license of Geo TV has issued notice to the Federation of Pakistan, PEMRA, Geo Network and Mir Shakilur Rehman CEO of Geo to appear before the court on December 17. Advocate Mehfooz Yar Khan has filed a petition in SHC seeking annulment of Geo’s licence. The petitioner maintains that in one of its programmes that went on air Geo tried to malign the name of Army and ISI so that Pakistan is put on the list of terrorist states. The petitioner further stated that according to PEMRA rules bank defaulters and benefactors of foreign funding cannot run TV channels, whereas Geo is both. He said if the court cannot get the licence of Geo channel cancelled it should restraint the network from airing propaganda against the country.
