QUETTA:

A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in many towns of Balochistan on Tuesday to commemorate the Baloch Martyrs’ Day on Tuesday bringing all trade and business activities to a halt.

The strike was called by the Baloch Salvation Front, a coalition of nationalist parties struggling for greater share in the province’s source.

A complete shutter-down was observed in Mastung, Dalbandin, Kalat, Kech, Mand and Khuzdar districts. However, business and trade activities went on in Quetta and other parts of the province where stringent security measures were in place.

Baloch Salvation Front staged a demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club to pay homage to Baloch leaders who sacrificed their lives while struggling for the Baloch cause.

Women and children were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demands. Speaking to demonstrators, the leaders of BSF, Banuk Jani Baloch and Zamor Azad said Baloch people have been deprived of their rights for the past 170 years.

“Many people have sacrificed their lives for the greater cause and still we are dealing with a war-like situation,” Banuk Jani said.
