Shah Abdul Latif University’s (Salu) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah has appealed to the provincial chief minister to prevent the University of Karachi and the University of Sindh from opening their campuses in the jurisdiction of Salu, Khairpur.
She said that Salu had been catering to the academic needs of the region since the last 26 years and that all public colleges were affiliated with the institute. Recently, however, the universities of Sindh and Karachi had decided to establish campuses in Naushero Feroze.
In her appeal, Shah maintained that the decision was morally and legally unjustified and was in violation of the University Act passed by the Sindh Assembly. She added that the opening of the campuses in Naushero Feroze will result in a loss of income from affiliation, admissions and other fees from external and private students for Salu. The act will decrease the academic territory of the institute, causing a disruption in the quality of education, she warned.
