A curfew will remain in place in the district on Muharram 9 and 10, stated a press release issued from the office of DI Khan commissioner on Monday.
Security check posts jointly manned by police and security forces have been set up on exit and entry points of the city, with similar ones set up along routes linking DI Khan to Tank, South Waziristan and Bhakar district of Punjab, said the press release. It added vigilance at these checkpoints has also been heightened.
Moreover, special desks have been set up at municipal committees, district councils, police lines and hospitals to deal with any emergency during Muharram.
DI Khan DPO Nisar Marwat also held meetings with representative delegations of business communities and clerics, requesting them to cooperate with the government in maintaining law and order.
Meanwhile, DI Khan Assistant Commissioner Irfan Mehsud told journalists motorcycles will be banned from 7 till 10 Muharram in the district. He added law enforcement agencies have arrested several suspects belonging to banned militant organisations, but did not disclose their identities.
