It will be Nawaz’s first visit to the GHQ since he assumed charge of his office after the May elections.
The prime minister is expected to lay a floral wreath at the memorial of martyrs, and meet with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
It is believed that Nawaz will be briefed about the professional matters, the internal and external challenges the country was facing.
Late last week, the TTP appointed Mullah Fazlullah as the successor to Mehsud. Fazlullah, known as Mullah Radio for using illicit radio stations in the Swat valley at the height of a brutal insurgency to denounce the government. Fazlullah is also believed to have ordered the hit on the teenage education activist Malala Yousufzai.
Nawaz’s visit also comes in the backdrop of a fast approaching retirement date of the Army chief. Incumbent chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is expected to complete his extended tenure later in November.
The government has yet to announce a successor for the army chief and for the tri-services chief, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The previous JCSC chief General Shamim Wayne had retired last month and the post has been vacant since.

"It is believed that Nawaz will be briefed about the professional matters, the internal and external challenges the country was facing." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It was exactly a similar meeting in 1999 at the Ojri camp that NS was briefed about Kargil ..........!!!!!!!!
The lion of Punjab, in London fresh laundry, will visit GHQ. To try to understand what an army does.
as my post contains a bit of patriotic content, so im pretty sure ET will not publish it. Nevertheless, the people, who are feel deep pain inside, that PM would visit GHQ, are respectfully informed that PM is not visiting Indian Army HQs, he is going to visit his own Army. The more pleasing thing is, despite all the trash which has been uttered against our own Armed Forces, later stay most popular institution with 89% of Pakistanis, according to latest IRI Survery,, have fun dudes
Nawaz Sharif's visit to the GHQ means nothing as this government including Kayni are not capable of deciding anything. His visit to the GHQ will waste fuel and time of the security agencies guarding the prime minister.
Just going for a cup of tea. No big deal.
Kayani to nawaz: Are you giving more contract work to my brother just like zardari favored my brother.
Hope we hear a word for PM regarding JI's recent drama.
Meray Aziz hum watano------are you ready?
Visit to the real house of power. Congrats!
Its "security" not "securit". Kindly correct the headline.
