ISLAMABAD: The prospects of collaborative research between Pakistani and Danish universities were discussed in a meeting between Ambassador of Denmark Jesper Moller Sorensen and Mukhtar Ahmed, the executive director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The ambassador said Pakistan was one of the 18 countries which were selected by the Danish government for engagement in education. “Joint research can be initiated after identifying research areas by institutions of higher learning”, said the ambassador. He urged the youth of Pakistan to apply for scholarships offered by Danish universities to enhance people to people contacts between the two countries.

Ahmed appreciated the Danish support for education and welcomed the offer to extend cooperation in higher education and collaborative research.

He briefed the ambassador about HEC’s existing model of institution to institution collaboration to identify common problems and areas for joint research. “Collaborative research may be initiated in areas where both countries could complement each other,” he said, adding that HEC would soon initiate a proposal in this regard.
