Judges should have waited till morning: Kurd

Ali Ahmed Kurd believes the judges should have waited till morning, while Qazi Anwar warns of a giant clash.

Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Ali Ahmad Kurd on Friday said he believed yesterday’s events were a war of nerves and it would have been better for everyone if the judges waited till morning, instead of meeting at the Supreme Court at night.

Meanwhile, current SCBA President Qazi Anwar warned of a giant clash with the government if it decided to take back its order on the restoration of judges.

He said that the previous day a statement was issued that implied that November 3 would be repeated. He added that if this happens, such a fire will spread that it will engulf the government.

He also requested the government to not test the nerves of the people.

Gangly Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Lawyers are split over the performance of judges. Qazi. Lawyers seen with him are siding with Justice for their own interest. Judges are corrupt and biased. They must be sacked in order to cool down the situation. They are neither sacrosanct nor indispensable. they are behaving like politicians. They said after restoration milk streams will flow and speedy justice will be dispensed. They did not fulfill their promises. They should be made accountable for delaying justice to general public. They should not interfere on government functioning. Government was elected by public and not by judges. They have no authority to challenge appointments made by competent authorities.

Zahid Hussain | 14 years ago | Reply The judges have crossed all limits of professional GRACE and OVER-RAECTED to an unsubstantiated over-played and over-sensationalized news story. They were expected to show restraint instead of creating a PANIC like situation by unjudiciously SIDING with and pre-maturely SUBSTANTIATING the media story themselves without quoting and / or refering to their sources. The other discomforting act was to ask the prime minister to give a writen assurance WITHIN ONE HOUR. Was the court addressing that order to a man in street who has nothing to do all day but respond to court’s orders? THE JUGDES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW THE MEDIA OR TO REACT TO UNSUBSTANTIATED STORIES. Tomorrow if anyone says on television that someone has made up his mind to kill someone will the court be justified to issue an order asking the accused person to give in writing that he did not intend to do that?

Neha Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Totally agree with Ali Ahmed Kurd. Morning was hardly a few hours away, what was the desperation??? These judges can do anything to save their jobs. They can take oath on PCO, refuse to take oath on PCO, meet at 2 am, not meet ever.... simply whatever it takes to help themselves and serve whoever they are serving. There is no doubt that it is not the country they are working for.

Sultan Ahmed. | 14 years ago | Reply Every institution, called pillar of the state should remain under the ring of constitution. In the constitution, role of institutions has been selected the same should be adopted, shouldn't go out,shouldn't too limited, play actively but in the ring.

aasia sohail mian | 14 years ago | Reply The supreme court has over reacted. The judges are going faster than the government. Both institutions are watching their own interests. Nobody is concerned with the public issues. Recently attack by lawyers remained unchecked by the Supreme Court and no body asked the lawyers about their attempt of attack on court of Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.

an | 14 years ago | Reply PPP has shown restrain against these biased judges for long but they have not behaved and continued to create trouble for govenment. These judges are friends of Sharifs and has kept mum on corruption of Sharifs. They have not opened cases of ISI funding religious and political parties. They have not convicted extremists and suicide bombers. It appears as if CJ is member of Jamaat Islami. They dont deserve to be judges as they are biased and unjust bunch of people.

basharat | 14 years ago | Reply Mr Kurd is a gentle, sincere and simple person . He participated in the struggle for the restoration of the Chief Justice , because he believed that reference against the Chief Justice ,had been filed with malafide intention and ulterior motives . Once , on a talk show , he said that we , during the campaign , had assured the people that they will get real and prompt justice, but there is no change. The man is not attached with any political party , we therefore , cannot blame him that he has changed his loyalties . The stories , circling in media and elsewhere , about some other leaders of the lawyer´s movement are not at all pleasant. Ridiculing a person , like that of Mr Kurd is , outrightly uncalled for . He is honest and truthful , a man, with nice quality deserves encouragement .

Basit | 14 years ago | Reply Its always sad to read the comments of people on this topic. Our nation has became pessimist. I didn't see anywhere Kurd supporting the government instead of judiciary. Even if judges met at night for saving their seats, its OK for them to do that. What if someone is planning to remove you by force, you will do the same, and you should. the only thing i want to say in this situation is to use minds rather than being aggressive. The biggest problem of our nation is that they want a CHANGE in a night without knowing that their struggle will bring good or bad. May Allah bless our nation and our country.

I have never heard him or read any comments on constitution or the profession of law, like so many others e.g. Ikram Sheikh, Akram Choudhary, Khalid Anwar, Nasira Iqbal, Wajid ud dDim, Dr. Basit even Latif Khosa & Babar Awan President of the SCBA is like the President & Prime Minister of the country? I have only seen him make political speeches like “moajma walas”

It means some of his demands were not fulfilled by the apex court so he become enemy of the judges. everyone has its own benefits. Now kurd said that he will support parliament rather than SC. Someday earlier he was in favour of SC and against the parliament. What is this......????
