Four new dengue patients were identified in Swat on Saturday, pushing the district’s total to 9,028, according to the District Health Office.
Four new patients were admitted to the dengue cell at Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) after which the total number of patients registered with the hospital reached 5,152, shared STH spokesperson Dr Wasil Khan. “Three patients have been discharged after complete recovery and the total number of cured patients now stands at 4,984,” he said, adding 17 patients were currently receiving treatment at the dengue cell.
Meanwhile, four more patients including a woman were diagnosed with dengue in Bisham tehsil of Shangla. The total number of people infected with the disease in the district has reached 1,259.
Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham in-charge Dr Mansoor Khan said a lesser number of people being diagnosed was indication that the infection could be decreasing in the area. He further said all new patients hailed from Gigal area in Kohistan district.
K-P health minister Shaukat Yousafzai had also earlier said the government was working to eliminate the virus in the province, while health officials had said lower temperatures would drive out the aedes mosquito. However, scores of deaths and thousands of cases later, it is still unclear if the affected districts will be completely free from the virus in the coming days.
