Leg-spinner Yasir Shah claimed a five-wicket haul to give SNGPL an important first-innings lead against UBL in their President’s Trophy round-three match at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
UBL were bowled out for 217 in 53.3 overs replying to SNGPL’s 279. Ali Asad’s top score of 87 was studded with 13 boundaries. Imran Ali continued his fine start to the season as he claimed another three-wicket haul in the second innings. SNGPL had scored 23 for one at the close of play stretching their lead to 62 runs.
Wapda stabilise after early jolts from PQA
Meanwhile, Wapda made an impressive recovery on day two against PQA as they were placed in a dicey situation when their seventh wicket fell with only 61 runs on board.
At this juncture, Asif Ali and Adnan Raees got involved in a 109-run eighth-wicket stand that helped Wapda make a comeback on a day where they were seemingly down and out.
Asif and Adnan were unbeaten on 60 each as PQA pacers Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Talha rattled Wadpa’s batting with sustained hostility, hitting the batsmen several times. Talha claimed four wickets while Sami snared three.
Seasoned Ayub Doggar of Wapda, who played one Test for Pakistan, praised the bowling of Talha and Sami. “They bowled with venom and it wasn’t easy to face them today,” Ayub told The Express Tribune. “We’ve been pushed on the back foot because of the serious pace that both Talha and Sami were generating and that made our batting crumbled. But Asif and Adnan have done a great job for us despite receiving blows and hopefully we can get out something from this match.”
NBP in pole position as Kamran, Sami hit big tons
NBP were in a strong position against SBP, who were struggling at 39 for five in their reply to NBP’s 435 at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Ataullah was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets under his belt. Earlier, NBP amassed 435 for five in 94.3 overs before declaring their innings.
Sami Aslam’s 191 runs were laced with 26 boundaries while skipper Kamran Akmal scored 162 studded with a six and 23 strikes to the fence. Faisal Yasin picked up three scalps.
In another match, HBL were struggling at 85 for four against KRL’s 307 while PIA were in a strong position against PTV as they scored 382 with solid knocks from Kamran Sajid (148) and Faisal Iqbal (96).
