BANNU:

A suspected militant was apprehended while trying to plant a bomb outside the house of a colonel in Cantonment Colony, Bannu on Friday.

Police official Iftikhar Ahmad said the alleged militant was held by Frontier Corps (FC) personnel as he was trying to plant the explosive device outside the gate of Colonel Abdullah’s house at around 6am. Ahmad added a security official apprehended the accused at gunpoint and handed him over to FC officials after which he was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Initial investigation revealed the alleged militant hails from North Waziristan, but his identity was not disclosed due to security reasons.

Ahmad said the bomb disposal squad was subsequently called in to decommission the device which contained three kilogrammes of explosives.

Meanwhile, rockets fired from an unknown location by unidentified militants landed on DI Khan-Bannu Road at around 1am, said a police official. He added no loss was reported in the incident. “If the rockets would have been fired in the daytime, they would have caused havoc and destruction.”
