KARACHI: Former captain Javed Miandad - who is serving as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s director general – has announced his intention to contest for the post of board chairman, IBN Live reported.

"I am seriously thinking about contesting the elections because I think I know the affairs of the board well enough now and, given my cricketing background, I can do good for Pakistan cricket," Miandad was quoted as saying.

The board is currently working under interim Chairman Najam Sethi who was appointed by the government after a court declared Zaka Ashraf’s appointment to be illegal.

Speaking on the issue of appointing a new chairman, Miandad said: "I know I can give back a lot to Pakistan cricket and after some feedback from my supporters and friends, I have realised this is only possible by running for the chairman's post.”

"What encourages me is that I have received overwhelming support from various quarters to contest the elections whenever they are held," the former cricketer added.

Miandad said that he would make a final decision once the ambiguity over the mechanism of PCB chairman's election becomes clear.

Elections

Acting chairman Sethi had been sent packing and brought back a few times for failing to hold elections in 90 days as ordered by the court.

Recently, the Islamabad High Court restored him as the board chairman till November 7.

He can only do that if he resigns from the current position in PCB, only if he had studied the constitution
