Mounting numbers: At least nine more dengue cases identified

At least nine more dengue cases were reported in the province on Thursday.


Around seven people were diagnosed with the virus in Shangla, taking the number of affected to 1,248 in the district.

Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Besham in-charge Dr Mansoor Khan said more dengue patients are being identified despite a drop in temperature. He added they were now lacking drips and kits to treat victims because of the huge influx. Dr Mansoor lamented they were being forced to refer patients to other districts or private hospitals due to lack of facilities, including beds and proper medication.

Meanwhile, two more dengue patients were identified in Swat, taking the total count of affected people to 9,015, according to the district health office.

Of the two patients, one was admitted to Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH), informed STH spokesperson Dr Wasil Ahmad Khan. “The total number of registered patients at the hospital has reached 5,140 while eight patients have been discharged. The total number of cured patients now stands at 4,971,” he added.

Dr Wasil said 21 patients including 17 males and four females were currently receiving treatment at the dengue cell. “Two patients suffering from complications are in the intensive care unit.”
