KARACHI: The United Goods Transporters Alliance, the apex body of goods transporters in the country, has gone on strike from Thursday. They are demanding the reversal of the decision to increase income tax, a slash in the traffic fines and action against the frequent incidents of extortion and kidnappings. The strike will continue till their demands are met by the government, said Fazal Manan Jadoon of the alliance. “The Federal Board of Revenue should take back its decision to increase the advance income tax on trucks. The police should stop using our containers and trucks for the safety of the routes of processions in the city and the Karachi Port Trust  should retrieve our truck stand at the Fisheries which it has leased out,” he demanded. He informed that they did not lift any cargo from the KPT on Thursday due to the strike.
