KARACHI:

The billboards across the city have created hype about Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain’s latest book, Falsafa-e-Mohabbat (Philosophy of Love), but those waiting to grab a copy will have to wait till after Muharram.

Falsafa-e-Mohabbat jald arahi hai,” reads one of the banners near Do Talwar but none of the teasers for the book give away anything else. The party leaders are also tight-lipped, saying they can’t comment till it is officially launched. “I can’t say much except that it’s a great book,” said Wasay Jalil. Rabita Committee’s member, Aminul Haque, who also deals with the media, said, “Everything shall be revealed on the launch day.”

Haque said that the book, which has been published in Urdu, will most likely be based on the leader’s vision and views on love. “Altaf Hussain has been always against religious extremism and violence in the country and promoted love and peace.”

The book launch was supposed to be held on November 3 at the Arts Council but was postponed on account of the death of Taliban’s Hakimullah Mehsud. “We cancelled the event keeping in mind the security situation of the city,” said Haque. The party, however, plans to have a bigger launch after Muharram. Politicians and journalists will also be invited.

This will be Altaf Hussain’s third book after Establishment ki Jati Hikmat-e-Amli, and Azadi ke 50 saal, kya khoya kya paya. A biography of his early years from 1966 to 1988, titled Safar-e-Zindagi, has also been published.

I don't understand why so-called "democrats" use derogatory terms about parts of this book. I don't have any party affiliation but the purpose of this book is better than sectarian hate-mongering pieces. These "kaafir" declarations to perpetuate violence is dangerous yet the reaction is limited. We may disagree with author's some views but he is entitled to share them so people can agree or disagree and develop their own opinions.
